Privacy Policy
Last updated August 2026
This policy describes what CaptionStudio collects, why, and who else sees it. It reflects how the product currently works.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and sign-in method, held by our authentication provider.
- Videos you upload. Stored so you can return to a project and so captions can be rendered onto them.
- Transcripts and captions. The text of what is said in your videos, along with per-word timings and your styling choices.
- Usage records. Which operations you ran and when, so credits and limits can be applied.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your videos or transcripts to train any model of our own.
Who else processes it
Making captions requires sending your audio to services that can transcribe it. The following receive some of your data:
- OpenAI — receives the audio track of your video to produce a transcript, and caption text when you use translation.
- ElevenLabs — receives your audio only if you use the audio enhancement feature.
- Cloudinary — stores your uploaded and exported videos.
- Clerk — handles sign-in and holds your account details.
- Neon — hosts the database holding your projects, captions and settings.
Each of these is a processor acting on our instructions, and each has its own privacy terms.
How long we keep it
Projects, videos and captions are kept until you delete them or close your account. Usage records are kept for billing and abuse prevention.
Deleting your data
Deleting a project removes its captions and settings. To remove your account and everything attached to it, email privacy@captionstudio.app and we will action it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us at the address above to exercise any of these.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and make the change visible in the product.
