Captions and subtitles for YouTube videos
By the Samsaam team · Updated
For regular (landscape) YouTube videos you usually want two things: an accurate subtitle file for YouTube’s caption track, and sometimes styled captions burned into key moments. Samsaam does both from one transcript.
Two ways to caption a YouTube video
| Subtitle file (SRT/VTT) | Burned-in captions | |
|---|---|---|
| Viewer can turn off | Yes | No |
| Styled and animated | No — YouTube controls the look | Yes |
| Translated tracks | Upload one file per language | Render one video per language |
| Best for | Long-form, accessibility, search | Intros, highlights, Shorts cut-downs |
Widescreen (16:9) captions
Samsaam keeps your video’s own aspect ratio, so landscape uploads stay landscape. Wide frames suit a single caption line in the lower third; the templates’ position and size are adjustable for widescreen.
Video length limits depend on plan: up to 30 minutes per video on the Team plan, shorter on the others. Long episodes are best split into chapters or clips.
