Devin Jatho-style captions, in one click

By the Samsaam team · Updated

Devin Jatho-style captions are a two-line caption look popular with short-form editors: a short white line on top, a heavier, larger coloured line beneath it with a soft light across its middle, both set in a bold italic display face and gliding in as whole lines. Samsaam’s Devin Jatho preset recreates that look automatically from your transcript, so you get it on every caption without keyframing.

Samsaam is not affiliated with or endorsed by Devin Jatho. The preset is Samsaam’s own design, inspired by a caption style that is widely recognised among video editors.

What makes the Devin Jatho caption style recognisable?

  • Two fixed lines. A short supporting line over a longer key line — by default two words over three.
  • Contrast between the lines. The top line is white; the bottom line is larger and set in one strong colour (red by default).
  • A light through the key line. A soft white reflection sits across the centre words of the bottom line and fades toward both ends.
  • Heavy italic type. A black-weight italic display face, set tight, so the caption reads at a glance on a phone.
  • Line-by-line motion. Each line drifts in from the side out of a soft blur and settles, instead of popping word by word.

How to make Devin Jatho-style captions in Samsaam

  1. Upload your video and choose the spoken language — the style works in every supported language, including Hindi, Urdu and Hinglish.
  2. Open the template picker and choose Devin Jatho.
  3. Check the words in the editor; timing comes from the transcript, so each line lands on speech.
  4. Adjust if you like: swap the red for your brand colour, upload your own font, or change the entrance animation.
  5. Export the burned-in video, or an overlay for Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official Devin Jatho caption template?

No. Samsaam is not affiliated with Devin Jatho. The Devin Jatho preset is Samsaam’s own design, inspired by the style.

What font do Devin Jatho-style captions use?

The look depends on a heavy, black-weight italic sans-serif set in capitals. Samsaam’s Devin Jatho preset uses TacticSans Black Italic; you can switch to any font in the editor or upload your own.

Can I change the red colour or the font?

Yes. Colour, font (including your own uploaded fonts), size, position and animation are all editable, and the two-line structure stays.

Does the style work for Hindi, Urdu or Hinglish videos?

Yes. The preset is driven by word timing, so it works across all 90+ supported languages, in native script or Roman letters.

Can I use it in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

Export the captions as an overlay — green screen on Creator and Team, alpha channel on Team — and place it on your timeline. See exporting captions to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
